Its time to announce the 2022 awards
Club of the Year 2022
Recently renamed “Saltaire Bar” but still trading as (and known by many as) the Shipley & District Social Club. This establishment comprises numerous rooms located around a central bar area. It is comfortably furnished throughout. The bar in the main area has three-hand-pulls serving real ale and is open to the public. The two guest beers are constantly changing and often feature real ales from local breweries. There is a large function room incorporating a bar area with a further three handpulls that is available for hire. The opening times can vary for functions. Only club members are permitted to use the snooker room but general visitors can use the pool room. Live entertainment is held on Sunday evenings. If you want to use more of the facilities, club membership is offered for a very reasonable price.
Cider Pub of the Year 2022
Refurbished and re-opened in May 2013, this pub was formerly known as Jacobs Beer House and Jacobs Ale & Cider House. CAMRA Bradford Cider Pub of the Year 2018 & 2017 and also runner-up Branch Pub of the Year 2018. This is the only building, dating from 1811, on what is left of Kent Street. It comprises a single open-plan room but with a rustic, multi-room feel. There are nine handpulls. Up to seven of these offer a varying range and style of real ales with the other two being used to serve real ciders. There are numerous boxed ciders, including regular local ciders by Grumpy John plus others often by Coleman’s and Pure North, and perries. Foreign bottled beers are also available. Eight keg taps offer a range of European beers and a cider. An outdoor seating area in front of the pub is popular in good weather. Sit outside and watch the city bustle while supping good ale. Selection of pies available throughout the day.
Central Bradford Pub of the Year 2022
The Record Cafe
Opened in late November 2014, this establishment’s unique selling point is the sale of ale, vinyl and ham! The pub was CAMRA Bradford’s Pub of the Year 2020 and also won in 2019 and 2017 (runner-up in 2018). It comprises a single open-plan corridor style room on the ground floor, containing the bar and charcuterie, and an upper mezzanine area. Four real ales are available on handpull with a further nine craft keg beers from independent brewers offered on tap. The ales are often from Yorkshire-based breweries and cover a variety of styles including dark beer. Real cider is also available as is an extensive selection of of home-produced and imported bottled beers and speciality gins. Snacky food is offered in a charcuterie style focussing on hams and cheeses from Spain and with the menu being presented on LP covers. Meanwhile, in the upstairs mezzanine area, it is possible to browse and purchase vinyl records until 6pm. Tap takeovers occur from time to time. There is a 20% discount on take-out bottles and cans.

The Salt Cellar
This traditional pub was built just on the edge of the World Heritage Site of Saltaire village because Sir Titus Salt did not allow licenced premises in the area. Previously the Victoria and following a period of refurbishment, it re-opened in December 2017 as the Salt Cellar. Much of the character of the earlier building has been retained and the pub has a friendly, cosy feel. It comprises a two-roomed house with the Victorian character having comfortable seating, stained glass partitions and bookshelves. There are numerous pictures of old Saltaire adorning the walls. Six handpulls offer a varying range of real ales from local and regional breweries and usually comprise two blondes, two ambers and two dark beers. Ten keg taps offer an additional range of drinks. The public bar now focusses on selling specialist gins, of which there is an extensive collection, and also has seven keg taps. There is live entertainment every weekend and an “Open Mic” night takes place on Tuesdays. A weekly quiz is held on Thursday nights. A “Singles Night” takes place on the last Sunday of the month. Closing times on a Friday and Saturday may be later depending upon demand. Part of the Trust Inns chain since the end of 2021.
